I'm sitting in a tire service shop waiting for 4 new tires to be installed. I had been hoping to get by with a repair. My right rear tire had been leaking slowly and I repeatedly needed to fill it.

This morning I went out to find my left front tire completely flat. I was prepared with spare and jack but the lug nuts were rusted tight. A call to a friend confirmed he didn't have a longer tire iron for more leverage and WD40 did nothing. Happily, roadside assistance made short work of removing the old tire and installing the spare. I'm reminded that having the right tools can make all the difference.

At the tire service center, I learned that even if the two tires could be repaired, I'd still need four new ones due to the wear.

Minimalism is looking good to me right now. Less stuff means less maintenance and effort needed. Even as a minimalist, though, a car would still be a necessary item.
