I recently returned from the Oregon coast after having spent a wonderful week traveling with a loved one. One of the things that felt particularly meaningful to me was paying our respects to the indigenous people in the area. Upon consulting a map of native land, we learned that the Clatsop and Nehalem people were there before the Europeans came. We reached out to them and asked how we might pay our respects. A spokesperson replied and suggested that we visit the local museum and welcome pole to learn about the native traditions.
